Looking Boy-ish

So! I'm not a morning person AT ALL; with that being said, you can count how many days in a week I get up and put make up on. So I leave my house almost everyday with no make up, a TWA, and scrubs for work... I get to work, look in that mirror in the ladies bathroom and want to SLAP MYSELF! I know the diva in me is screaming because I have left the house, not only with a bald face, but looking like some gender confused adolescent. And even when I remember to put on earrings nothing seems to work when your face is bland. I know it doesn't matter what I look like to other people, but I am a woman of my own image, and I do like to look nice... I mean who doesn't? Maybe I should keep makeup in my purse??

Yeah...

Along with my spray bottle, little jar of leave in, tampons, deodorant, body spray, extra panties, nail filer, and 4 sticks of chapstick.... I like to be prepared! lol

Like an African???

So, I'm a preschool teacher ok?... and I don't get too fancy when i go to work because, i mean, i'm around kids all day so what am i getting dressed up for right? Well last week i had done some 2 strand twist in my hair and was wearing a cute lil beanie to work with a few twist out in the front. Ok, well this parent of one of my kids who is Jamaican i mind you... say's "What's that with your head? You look like an African or something!" and proceeds to laugh... I'm like WHHHHAAAT!!!! O_O

Did this women just call me an African because i'm sporting my natural hair?!?!?!? Lord take me higher! why? Because i had to hold myself from giving this woman an ear full about my hair and how proud i was but i don't believe she would have respected that, nor understood. I just couldn't beleive the audacity of this woman... ugh. ok. Stay beautiful ladies! and PLEASE love your hair!

ONE MONTH NATURAL!!

Here are some updated pictures of my natural hair one month after my big chop!

Here is my first photo after my big chop taken January 17 2011. I had attempted a two strand twist out and as you see it wasn't the least bit defined. But I liked it.

Here is a photo taken of a wash -n- go at the end of the day on February 17 2011. Notice the thickness of my hair now! It's so soft and curly!

Church Hair

I have always been an avid church goer. I would like to think this was the source of my getting perms all of my life. Being in a baptist church, or any church for that matter where particularly African-American people dominate, image is a very big thing. You know, big church hats, fancy suits, dolled up for Easter Sunday, the whole nine. SO with that being said, I'm wondering how things will go if I wore my natural hair to church??? As of now on Sundays I'm wearing some lace front wigs and underneath I have my hair undergoing the "baggy method" to retain moister and stay protected. I mean, there is a women their that has already done her big chop and she is using two strand twist with extensions for protection... but I was the one in church with the CRISP weave! lol I'm not sure just what I'm going to do next week.... Ultimately it's my head so I can do what I please ... hm *scratches head*

To Comb or Not to Comb

I'm finally over thinking or calling my hair nappy, and anyone else's for that matter...
since my hair is so short I can't help to keep from plucking at it all darn day!

RANDOM!!!
I'm going to stop combing my hair! I know it sounds a little funky at first but that's where all the breakage plays in. Grant it, wide tooth combs are good for detangling, but if there isn't enough length to complain about tangles, why the heck am I using a comb?

So, that's it (I think) no more comb until my hair is between my eyes. (not literally, the length w/ the curl stretched)

ok, goodnight for now lol

In A Room FULL of White Women...

I have begun my last semester at college, and I'm attending this course where I am the only African-American... O_O. Now, if I was my old relaxed (hair) self I wouldn't have any problem... but since I am not my old relaxed self I did feel a bit uneasy. Everyone's hair was long, strait, silky, and smooth. And mines was..... on my head. They could run their fingers through their hair and whip it over their shoulder. And mines was.... on my head. I almost want to throw my hood on, scurry to the corner and disappear but then I took another look.

Each of those women, throughout the entire 3 hours I was in class, kept "fluffing" their roots of their hair trying to achieve volume. My hair is naturally full of volume.
Some of those women had curls in their hair achieved by probably a curling iron that reaches 400 degrees. I just have to use my finger.
One woman's hair got caught in her zipper. Mines was too short for that! :P

But what I'm trying to say is DON'T BE ASHAMED! You're hair, my hair, is BEAUTIFUL! And we have spent all of our time and money on trying to look and imitate hair and people that we are not! Be who God intended you to be! Love yourself, Love your curls!

TWA in Public!

So my nightly routine gave me wonderful results with my issue with moisture and knitted hats and big earrings really jazz up your TWA. I wore my first finger curl to work today and I got many compliments! I have to admit I was pretty nervous and I feel like now that everyone has seen my natural hair, me wearing my wigs would be to... obvious and I don't want to seem ashamed... which I am not! (: I just might get some kinky twist as a protective style for a while. I believe this will keep my mind off wondering if it is growing or not. It's only been 3 days and I length check every 5 mins! This is a wonderful learning experience for me, I am finding it easier each day to not worry about what others think of me and how I should or shouldn't look. I am beautiful, and so is my hair!

New Night Routine

Two nights ago I went to sleep with two corn rows down the sides of my head with the ends tied in rubber bands... Tonight, there are no braids, no rubber bands, not even a part to be made. So what kind of method can I introduce to my hair during the night to keep it hydrated? I have been doing much research prior to this milestone and considered doing my first "baggy".

Steps:
1. co-washed with Beauty4Ashes Max Moisture & Gro Conditioner
2. saturated my hair with Cantu Shea Butter Leave-in Conditioning Repair Cream
3. used a wide tooth comb to stretch curls and make sure product is evenly through hair
4. with my BioINFUSION Olive Oil Shine Serum in the palm of my hands, I ran my hands
over the TOP of my curls to seal the ends
5. placed plastic bag over my head and placed a headband tightly to hold it down (around my forehead)
6. folded the access bag back to ensure coverage of the nape area, and covered all with a cotton head scarf. (since my hair wasn't exposed I didn't feel the need to use a silk one, and the cotton would stay put through the night

And that's it!
